Classroom Guidance is a developmental program of classes designed to foster students' academic, career, and personal/social development. Classroom lessons will be conducted throughout the school year in each and every classroom. These lessons address developmental issues common to elementary students, and empower students with self-knowledge, coping strategies, and life skills that will assist them in becoming problem solvers, collaborative workers, and responsible citizens.
Lessons will include our school's focus on instilling the importance of C.A.R.E.S...Caring, A Positive Attitude, Engaging in Learning, and Developing Self-Directed Learning Skills. An introduction lesson with all classes will be done the first few weeks of school to introduce ourselves to all of the students. Career Lessons will also be conducted in November. The Leader in Me 7 Habits will be the main focus in classroom guidance topics. Lesson topics will include the following:
-Habit 1: Be Proactive "You're in Charge" (Responsibility, Emotions/Feelings)
-Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind "Have a Plan" (Study Skills, Following Directions)
-Habit 3: Put First Things First "Work First, Then Play" (Goal Setting, Organization)
-Habit 4: Think Win-Win "Everyone Can Win" (Problem Solving, Bullying Prevention, Respect)
-Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood "Listen Before You Talk" (Listening, Self-Control)
-Habit 6: Synergize "Together is Better" (Friendship, Kindness, Teamwork)
-Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw "Balance feels Best" (Managing Stress/Worries, Anger Management, Transition to Middle School for Fifth Grade Students)
